Every frame is a complete picture
This is the detail that separates a working GIF extractor from a broken one. To save space, a GIF usually stores only the part of the image that changed since the previous frame, along with a rule for what to do with the frame before it — leave it, clear it, or restore what was underneath.
Pull those stored frames out naively and you get fragments: a patch of pixels on transparency, meaningless on its own. This tool replays the animation properly, applying each frame's disposal rule, so what you download is the complete picture as it appeared on screen at that moment.
Why PNG
Frames are saved as PNG rather than JPG for two reasons. PNG is lossless, so no compression artefacts are added to an image that has already been reduced to 256 colours. And PNG supports transparency, which many GIFs use — saving those as JPG would fill every transparent pixel with solid colour.
Frame delays are shown
Each thumbnail is labelled with its own delay. GIFs frequently vary this — holding on one frame and rushing through others — so if you plan to rebuild the animation elsewhere, those numbers are what you need to reproduce the timing.
