About PDFBuild
PDFBuild is a free collection of file tools that run in your web browser. No account, no installation, no watermark on what you download.
Why this site exists
Almost everyone runs into the same small problem now and then. A form will only accept a PDF under 200 KB. An application wants your photo at an exact pixel size. Three separate scans need to become one document before you can email them. None of that is difficult work — but the usual answers are annoying: install a desktop program you will use twice, sign up for a trial, or accept a watermark stamped across your own file.
PDFBuild was built to remove that friction. Open the page, do the one thing you came for, close the tab. That is the whole idea.
How your files are handled
This is the part most file websites are vague about, so here it is plainly.
Most tools never upload anything. Merging, splitting, compressing, rotating, page reordering and every image tool are written in JavaScript that runs inside your own browser. Your file is read into your device's memory, processed there, and handed back to you as a download. It does not travel across the internet at any point. If you are technically inclined, open your browser's network tab while you use one of these tools — you will see no upload.
Four tools do use a server, and they say so. Converting Office documents to PDF, converting PDF back to Word or PowerPoint, unlocking a password-protected PDF, and adding a password to a PDF all need real desktop software (LibreOffice and qpdf). A browser genuinely cannot do those conversions properly, and we would rather run them honestly on a server than ship a fake conversion that just renames the file extension. Files sent to that server are converted and deleted immediately — nothing is stored, kept or reused.
What it costs
Nothing. There is no paid tier, no premium unlock and no usage counter. Running the site costs money, so it carries advertising — that is the entire business model. We do not sell data, because we do not collect any files or documents to sell.
What is on the site
- PDF tools — merge, split, compress, rotate, reorder, remove and extract pages, and convert images to PDF.
- Image tools — compress and convert JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC and BMP; resize, rotate and crop; a circular crop; and a photo-and-signature resizer built for online application forms.
- Document conversion — Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF, and PDF back to Word or PowerPoint.
- PDF security — remove a password you already know, or add one.
- Extras — ZIP maker and extractor, barcode generator, password generator, and a colour-palette extractor.
More tools are being added. If something you need is missing, tell us — the list of what to build next is largely shaped by what people write in and ask for.
Who runs it
PDFBuild is an independent project, developed and maintained by Goutam Kumar. It is not affiliated with Adobe, Microsoft, Google or any other company whose file formats it works with. Those names are used only to describe what the tools do.
