Edit PDF — Change the Text in a PDF, Right Where It Is
Open a PDF, click any line of text and type what it should say. The words are replaced inside the PDF itself, in the same font, size and place — so the page looks exactly as it did, apart from the words you changed.
What it edits: text that is already in the PDF. It does not add new text boxes, pictures or signatures, and it can't change a scanned page — a scan is a photo of text, not text.
How to use Edit PDF
- Open your PDFClick the button above and choose a PDF of up to 60 MB. The first time you open the tool it downloads its PDF engine — about 10 MB — so give it a few seconds; after that it opens straight away.
- Click the text you want to changeEach line of text highlights as you point at it. Click one and an edit box opens right on top of it, already filled with the current words and drawn at the same size.
- Type, press Enter, downloadChange the words and press Enter (Esc cancels). The page redraws with your change. Undo and Redo are in the toolbar, and Download PDF saves the edited file.
Why the edit looks like the original
Most free “PDF editors” paint a white box over the old words and type new ones on top in a font of their own. It looks fine on screen, but the old text is still in the file — it turns up when you copy, search or print — and the new words rarely match the rest of the line.
PDFBuild rewrites the text inside the PDF instead. The old words are genuinely removed, and the new ones are drawn with the font already embedded in the file, at the same size, spacing and position. Everything else on the page — images, lines, tables, the rest of the text — is left exactly as it was.
When a character can't be typed
A PDF usually carries only the letters it actually uses — a “subset” of the font. If you type a letter the embedded font doesn't contain, say a capital that never appeared in the document, PDFBuild tells you exactly which characters are missing instead of quietly drawing them in a different font. A substituted lookalike font makes a file that looks right on one screen and wrong everywhere else, so the tool refuses rather than guesses.
In practice, small corrections — a name, a date, an amount, a spelling — go through cleanly. Rewriting a whole paragraph in new words is more likely to hit a letter the font never had.
Your file stays on your device
The whole edit happens in your browser, using the pdf.js and pdf-lib engines. The PDF is never uploaded, so there is nothing on our side to store or to delete.

Is Edit PDF free?
Yes. There is no signup, no page limit and no watermark on the file you download.
Can I add a signature, an image or new text?
Not with this tool — it changes text that is already in the PDF. To put photos or a scanned document into a PDF, use JPG to PDF or Merge PDF.
Why can't I edit my scanned PDF?
A scanned PDF is a photograph of a page: there are no letters in it to change, only pixels. Edit PDF works on PDFs that were created digitally — from Word, a website, a billing system — where you can select the text.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. It is opened and edited inside your browser and never leaves your device.
