PDF tools

Combine several PDFs into a single document, pull a few pages out of a long report, delete the pages you don't need, or turn a stack of photos into one PDF. Pages are fitted to A4 and scaled proportionally, so nothing comes out stretched or cropped.

The Compress PDF tool exists mainly for upload limits — government portals, job applications and exam forms that refuse anything over 200 KB or 500 KB. Move the slider and the estimated output size updates live, so you can stop right at the limit instead of guessing.

Image tools

Compress JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC and BMP files, convert between those formats, and resize, rotate or crop a picture — including a circular crop for profile photos.

There is also a dedicated photo-and-signature resizer, built for the exact pixel and file-size rules that online application forms tend to specify separately for the photograph and the signature.

Document conversion

Word, Excel and PowerPoint files convert to PDF, and PDFs convert back to Word or PowerPoint. These four tools run on a small server using LibreOffice, because faithful Office conversion needs real desktop software — a browser cannot do it honestly.

Files sent to that server are converted and deleted immediately; nothing is stored, logged or reused. Every tool that leaves your browser is labelled inside the tool itself, so you always know which is which.

Privacy, in specifics

Most of PDFBuild is JavaScript running on your own device. When you merge or compress a PDF here, the file is read into your browser's memory, processed there, and handed back to you as a download. It is never sent anywhere — you can watch the network tab and see for yourself.

That is also why large files can be slower on a phone than on a laptop: the work is happening on your hardware, not ours.

Is PDFBuild free to use?

Yes. Every tool is free, with no signup, no account and no trial limit. The site is paid for by advertising rather than by charging you.

Can I edit the text in a PDF?

Yes — open Edit PDF, click any line of text and type the new words. The change is written into the PDF in its own font, size and position, and the old words are really removed, not covered with a white box. It edits text that is already in the PDF: a scanned page is a picture with no text in it, so it cannot be edited, and a character the PDF's font does not contain is refused rather than drawn in a different font.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

For most tools, no. Merging, splitting, compressing, rotating and all the image editing run inside your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

Four tools are the exception — Office to PDF, PDF to Office, Unlock PDF and Protect PDF — because they need desktop software that cannot run in a browser. Those files are deleted from the server the moment the conversion finishes.

Does PDFBuild add a watermark?

No. Nothing is stamped, branded or appended to your file. What you download is your own document, unchanged apart from the edit you asked for.

How do I merge two PDF files?

Open the Merge PDF tool, drop in two or more PDFs, drag the pages into the order you want, then press Merge & Create PDF. The merged file downloads straight to your device.

How do I reduce a PDF to 200 KB for an online form?

Open Compress PDF, upload the file, then lower the Compress slider. The estimated output size updates as you drag, so you can stop just under the limit the form asks for and download from there.

Is there a file size limit?

Browser-based tools are limited only by your device's memory, so big files are usually fine on a computer. The four server-based tools accept files up to 25 MB.

Do I need to install anything?

No. PDFBuild runs in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Android and iPhone. There is nothing to download.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. The layout adapts to small screens and the file picker uses your phone's normal gallery and file browser. Very large PDFs may take longer on a phone, since the processing happens on your own device.
